Calls for better emergency equipment following more knife crimes and shootings

More lives have been needlessly lost following a fatal mass shooting in Florida on May 30th, whilst across the pond in the UK a 14-year-old boy lost his life after being stabbed in a fast food restaurant. The two tragic events, which took place within days of each other this week, has added more weight to the argument for bleed control facilities being readily available in public places. 

Two people died and more than 20 were wounded in the shooting outside El Mula Banquet Hall concert hall in Florida. 

Three people climbed out of a white car "with assault rifles and handguns and started firing indiscriminately into the crowd," police director Alfredo Ramirez III told reporters. 

Mr Ramirez said it was "a despicable act of gun violence, a cowardly act" and "this type of gun violence has to stop.” 

The suspects fled the scene shortly after the shooting and there have been no arrests. 

The tragedy sadly follows a long line of mass shootings that have taken place throughout the pandemic. In April, President Joe Biden outlined initial actions he will take to tackle gun violence, which takes thousands of lives in the U.S. each year.

As bystanders are always the first responders at the scenes of such tragedies, had bleed control facilities been installed within the concert area, concert goers would have been better equipped to help stop the bleeding wounds of those injured by the shooters, during those critical minutes before the emergency services arrived.  

In the UK, knife crime continues to be a fatal problem within communities which has led for calls for more bleed control stations to be installed in places that attract groups of youths. 

The latest “shocking and senseless tragedy” saw a 14-year-old school boy lose his life after being stabbed to death near a McDonald’s in Birmingham in the UK. The teenager was attacked by "up to seven offenders" during a national holiday on May 31^st.

West Midlands Police said despite paramedics' best efforts “sadly nothing could be done to save him" and the schoolboy died at the scene. 

The boy would no doubt have had a better chance of surviving the attack if bleed control facilities were installed in the McDonalds establishment; a busy public place, just like the concert hall in the U.S.
